Think The iPad is LAME? Read This!
There has been a lot of hate going on recently about the new device announced by Apple called the ‘iPad’. The purpose of this device is supposed to be the device “in between the computer and the iphone”. And in my perspective that’s exactly what it is.
Let’s start this off by talking about all the good things about this device. First off, it provides 3G service, which enables you to use the internet almost anywhere you go. This would be perfect for people (like me) who want to use the internet without carrying around a whole computer. Second, its SKINNY! This device may not be able to fit in your pocket, but with a .5″ thin design, it can fit in the smallest places in your backpack. This also means that you can hold it with ease, considering its .5 pounds light. This device also supports a bunch of cool accessories that make it a lot better than it already is. As of now, these includes a full sized keyboard with dock and a 30-pin to SD card adapter to use for importing photos and documents.
The bad things or cons about the device consist of the following. There are no USB ports, so this means no printers, cameras, or other additional hardware that you can use on a computer. Another thing is that it doesn’t have a camera. This is a big issue for a lot of problem for a lot of people, but will almost defiantly be an addition in the future generations. (We HAVE found that there is a slot on the inside of the iPad that fits an MacBook camera. More details about that here.)
So in conclusion, this is NOT intended to be a computer, or a mobile device. It is in between and this looks to me like an amazing advice. Disagree with everything I just said? Talk about it in the comments!

Wow…really…thats all you write?
Pros: Its thin, easily portable, 3G service(go anywhere computing), Cool Accessories
Cons: No USB, No Camera
Thats basically what your article consisted of.. Lets delve deeper maybe.
You say that the device is thin and easily portable and has 3g service. True…but what makes it different from your iphone, android phone? You’ve basically just confirmed what any 2 year old can see on the surface. Your list of cons is anemic. You show yourself to be a total fan boy and unable to take an objective look at the platform.
Now…take a step back and evaluate exactly why this device can fit into a niche between an iphone or a macbook.
Start with the simple. The device is small and portable and makes it easy to read a book, or magazine that you can take anywhere…from a flight, waiting in the airport to even your bathroom. Whats more important it opens up textbooks to being transferred from heavy monolithic items that can cause back strain in children to something thats easily portable.
To be really objective you should put in why it isn’t a great implementation.
Price: at $499 for the basic unit, it may seem a bargain to the Apple audience but to the real world where you can get a netbook for $200 less or a kindle for $249 its vastly overpriced.
performance: Its quick, by all reports its really really fast. Too bad the speed is at the cost of multitasking. Yes you can listen to music, but what about working on a spreadsheet, needing to look something up on the internet, etc.
Steve Jobs is right….this is a magical tool. Just not in its current implementation. There’s so much promise with the platform, but its not there yet, and we probably shouldn’t waste our money on it until it is there.
Thanks for the constructive criticism Brian. I’ll be sure to go more into detail in my next post.
Hmmmm….. Thanks for confirming the lameness of the iPad. Once again Apple uses it’s customer base as a test group and the best part is you get to pay to be in it.
Nice….. Oh did I mention it’s a lame device? Yes, I think I did.
p.s I’m a Mac user, just not dumb enough to fall for this stuff anymore…. LOL
